Episode #22: Nightmare Bike Tour

by | Sep 4, 2023 | blog

Way back in July 2009, Tim decided it was a good idea to ride his mountain bike alone and without maps from Sergeev Posad to Yaroslavl. Just as his students warned him would happen, Tim soon found himself trapped between bandits and rogues, and was even invited into the attic (the part of a building that is just below the roof and that is used to store old and forgotten things) of a temporarily empty building.
In addition to these adventures, Tim got badly sunburnt, which cut his trip short but also prevented him from sleeping in a terrible thunderstorm the following day.

Hi Tim! Wish you a successful new academic year!
It was certainly a crazy idea to go on a bike tour on your own. I wonder how long it took you to start laughing about the whole story. That year or probably earlier I met a Swiss guy at Vorobyevy Gory, who was on his way to Mongolia by bike, it was his grandfather’s, really heavy but looked sturdy. I tried to google him to find out if he made it, but to no avail.

    Hi Elizaveta!
The start of the year was a bit tough- getting up at 630am I realize is something that a lot of people hate and tolerate, but it still sucks! I got a bit sick at the end of the first week and was back to one hundred percent by Monday.
I was thinking about “wax” in the sense “become” from a few episodes back, and realized there is another collocation: “wax ecstatic”.
